Is being independent all it’s cracked up to be

We’ve heard the songs about “She got her own” “Independent lady”  “5 Star Chick”. All hyping us up to believe that providing 100% for yourself in every way possible is the new way to go.

Yep, we got played!!! Men are now using our words against us. They’re saying since you want to be the bread winner and flash how much you’re balling we don’t have to treat you like a lady. Dudes are now looking to their women for support. Now we have to be super freaks, pay the bills, have the kids, cook, clean and be sexy. Um that doesn’t sound like winning to me. That sounds like more work.

Every generation has its struggle but I’ll admit I’d much rather go back to the man making the larger chunk of the money and still treating me like a lady.

There are tons of single ladies looking for their BOSS and I’m a bit curious as to see if there is indeed a boss for every well paid woman.

In the midst of this independent movement there are single mothers that have labeled themselves independent. Not by direct choice but is this something we want to teach our children. Do we want our boys to believe a woman should do everything and man gets to pick and choose his responsibility. Do we want our daughters to pull all the weight in a relationship. Excuse my language but HELL NAW!

Chicago Comedian Kellye Howard made a great point in her blog. “So basically this rant was to say, you may pride yourself on being a SINGLE mother, but who is it really benefiting? I don’t think the child is getting the best possible deal when one parent is deleted from his/her life because the other parent wants to prove her independence.”

Read Kellye Howard’s Independently SELFISH Single mothers!

Let’s cut the crap and stop acting like paying bills by yourself or raising your kids alone is what you want. Don’t block the other parent from stepping up and Single ladies with no children stop screaming independent unless you want to keep paying all your bills yourself.

My point today is How independent do you really want to be?

Facebook Stat of the Day: Mother’s Make the World Go Around

I now get the full understanding of “it takes a village to raise a child” with or without the father involved the mother has to make so many sacrifices. I am so thankful for the support of family and friends. I have an even deeper respect for the ones doing it on their own, with more than one child working and or going to school. It takes a lot! Nothing taken from the fathers but mothers I salute you to the fullest!

Mother’s with Criminal Backgrounds Need Love Too

Ride of Die Chick,  That was the song back in the day. Eve seemed liked the hard do whatever for her man type. Yeah that’s what a man wants a chick that’s willing to sit in jail why he finds another dying to be loved chick to take his next case.

That’s not what happens to all the women with criminal backgrounds but it would be foolish of us not to believe that men don’t play a vital role in women choosing to be apart of that life. In a society that seems to be embarrassing female leadership, we’re embracing the cynical behavior of women also.

Bad Girls Club, Mob Wives, Real House Wives of Wherever, Basketball Wives are all shows that magnify the emotional roller coasters of women. We are so much more then weave and lip gloss. We know that but when we enter a meeting will our business partners know that. For me this means we have to work 20 times harder than before to prove we deserve to sit at the board table.

Back to women with criminal backgrounds. How are these women suppose to enter back into society when the government won’t allow school loans, the last person a company wants to hire is a felon with a kid, they can’t even get section 8 in Illinois. Yes it was their choice to break the law but if we don’t want them to repeat the behavior we need to offer some type of help.

I know people with College degree’s that are doing nothing with them. People with great jobs that complain every day.

Do you know a woman that has successfully entered into the workforce with a background? Share the story with us. Someone needs some hope.

Think Before You Pop Off: The Effects of Being ‘Angry Woman’ on Your Kids

So we’ve all seen, been or are the child of a ‘Angry Woman’ that will pop off on anyone at any time. In the black community we chalk this up to the hardships of being a single mother but hell even mother’s with a man can act a fool in public.

I wouldn’t say my mother was angry but she sure as hell embarrassed me more than a dozen times in front of friends and family. At the time I don’t think she understood nor cared how her actions made me feel.

That brings me to my next point. Ms Tami Roman didn’t realize at the time she was punkin women on national television that her daughters would be embarrassed. It’s one thing people in the neighborhood knowing your mom is a goon but to have all your classmates and teachers see your mother behave like a kid you go to school with is devastating.

As women we can be a bit emotional and get lost in trying to make a point. As mother’s we have to realize we represent a few little people that look up to us. No, I’m not saying let people punk you but if you don’t show your kids how to resolve conflicts without name calling and throwing bows who will.

Our kids are not with us at business meetings and at work so they often don’t get to see us in action but they do have the privilege of riding with us in the car when someone cuts us off or when we find out some juicy gossip. We don’t want that to be the only image our kids have of us.

We have to think before we pop off ladies. Someone is always watching.

Watch Tami Roman gets emotional on the Wendy Williams Show after learning how she embarrassed her children with her hood antics.

Unplanned Pregnancy & Success: The Mary Mary Life

Happy Memorial Day Recovery,

It was blazing in Chicago. 91 degree’s no breeze. It was too hot for me to be slaving over a stove so I relaxed watching the Mary Mary Marathon.

As I’m branding and formulating our company of providing motivation to the masses. Specifically mommies making moves 🙂 Mary Mary’s reality TV show reveals many of the obstacles and perks of being a woman living her passion while being a caring mother and partner.
Family 1st and foremost is their focus. It’s the reason they exist. 2 sisters with a mission to prove to the world that Jesus music (as my little sister would call it) can reach the cool crowd.

One episode really touched me. Tina discovered she was pregnant. While this should be a magical moment for a married woman with a supportive partner, it’s not. It’s a reminder of another person tugging on Tina’s house coat. On a grander level it puts a major glitch in every one’s business plans. As much as we’d like to be super woman, we have our limitations during pregnancy.

Modern day moms have so much more to think about when planning a family. Women are becoming majority breadwinners and the one’s organizing everything related to family. That’s a hell of a job for someone with a full time career.

It’s evident everyday that moms are running the world. It’s also evident that we need help to do so. We need supportive men and families that understand that we are more than mothers but everything we do contributes to the progression of our family.

Help a Mama Out!!!!

I definitely admire these mommies for all they juggle. Hope you’ll be tuning in for the season finale of Mary Mary Thursday 9/8c on WeTV.

Lets support mommies makin moves.

Ok, mama.

Lets chat later.

Balancing Business and Ambition: What’s a Mother to do?

What a day!!

Mommy making moves is all moved out. Today is my 2nd day volunteering for the Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference in Chicago. I’ve seen this event advertised for years but it wasn’t until this year that my light bulb went on. “I NEED to be there” I thought to myself. Well I did the research tweeted Alfred Edmond Jr. the Editor at Large at Black Enterprise for more information regarding volunteering. He gave me the link and the rest is history.

Life is about making moves not watching life move without you. I write about my small steps because I want you to know that Big things come from small actions. We must go into every situation with an open mind to ensure we get the most from each opportunity.

I’ve heard some amazing business stories from single mothers and stay at home moms doing 4 million in sales a year. It’s possible!! I’ll share more of my volunteer experience after Memorial Day.

Back to me being all moved out.

Days like this force me to put myself in the shoes of mothers that have abandoned their dreams because it was just too stressful to juggle family and ambition. Late nights planning business moves and early morning preparing kids for school can leave us exhausted.

I honestly haven’t seen anyone that sacrifices more than a mother. Motivated mommies make tough calls every day! No, we don’t yell to the world the opportunities we’ve passed on to keep our kids smiling but know that it happens often. There are no easy decisions when building a business and maintaining a HAPPY family. Key word being happy.

I’m determined to live a fulfilled abundant life so I’ll continue to push to balance my unruly Libra scales.

Well I’d like to hear tips from my Mommies Making Moves on how you keep your family happy and your professional life flourishing?

Help a sister out.

Are you hanging with rachet people with no direction?

Let’s get to it.

Have you noticed yourself questioning your circle of Friends. Do you find yourself thinking why am I friends with this person? She keeps up drama, is way to concerned with other people (not in a positive way) and has no direction and aren’t trying to find away to a better life.
This happens to all of us at some point. We begin to wonder how the behavior of our friends and family reflect on us. Yes I said family because family will hold you back from your greatness just as much as strangers.
This light bulb usually goes off when we decide that we want better for ourselves. Naturally we look to someone for advice but when we notice that everyone we hang around is sinking in the same boat as us we start thinking what the hell have I been doing all these years.
It’s a necessary slap in the face that will motivate you to seek mentors and friends on higher ground. Slowly but surely you’ll see what you’ve been missing and gradually move away from people that don’t support your progression. They may start calling you  stuck up but it’s a price all great people must pay. Don’t start acting funny like “You hoes ain’t on nothing” but express your goals to them and welcome them to join if they are serious about achieving goals.
Life has away of clearing your path of distractions once you’ve made the decision to better yourself.
Many will be happy for you. Soon you’ll be the inspiration for others to break out their comfort zone, prompting them to get their life together.
Well, I hope this was tad bit helpful and you can look forward to more live and direct entries like this one. Mrs. Chanel AKA MommyMakinMoves has found her lane.
Get your mind right and the rest will follow.
Joyful Tuesday

Motivated Mommy Making Moves

Mother’s day is this weekend. (Hope you have your moms gift) Although if you ask any mom she’d probably say mothers deserve more than one day that falls on a Sunday. That means moms have to go to work the next day. The reality soon settles in that mother’s day is over on Monday morning. It’s back to the grind of life.

If you’ve followed my on twitter @MommyMakinMoves and Facebook you’ve seen my mantra. Motivated Mommy Making Moves. I think it’s pretty fly. Don’t you?
Well, I came up with this little saying because of all the buzz around women pushing their dreams to the side to raise their children or be supportive to their mate. When I heard that this was expected of me, I got angry. I was mad that people in my life expected me to “settle down”. I was frustrated that as a woman that had dreams before I had a man and a child I was expected to abandon all the vivid dreams that kept me progressing. I was pissed that my life would become mundane and routine. In a nut shell I wanted to start a RIOT (No 2Chainz)
After the back in fourth in my head of if I could still be a great mother and wife while pursuing my passion, I came to the conclusion that I had no choice. I refused to pour into others leaving my own cup empty. I deserved to be fulfilled, I deserved to live in abundance even if that meant me taking on the extra work load.

This issue inspired me to make our signature shirt “Motivated Mommy Making Moves” with the image of our beautiful 1st Lady Michelle Obama. She is an amazing role model for women and girls.
Motivated Mommy Making Moves means that I’ll never forget I’m a mother but I will continue to move towards my professional and personal destiny. Yes there will be some tough decisions along the way but heavy is the head that wears the crown and as my husband says I’m a queen.
You can have love, a social life, success and be an amazing mother. I’m here to tell you it isn’t easy but it is a challenge well worth the juggling act.
Sincerely,
Motivated Mommy Making Moves.

I’m Conceited, I Gotta Reason: Pep Talking Yourself

You’re week is almost over but your goals shouldn’t be. We all have career goals ,or at least we should, that act as indicators that we’re headed in the right direction. No matter what your goals professional or personal you should always pep talk yourself. Yes, I said pep talk!!!

Before me and my girls go out for a night on the town we pop in our “Feeling Our self Music”. It usually consists of Beyonce, Juke Music and anything that says we’re fly young women. There are plenty of songs to hit the club but not too many for going to work. So for this you need to create your own mental theme music.

Everyday, situation and occasion has it’s own theme. Choose accordingly.

According to Successconsciousness.com affirmations have to be repeated with attention, conviction, interest and desire.

Here’s a few affirmations to help you stay pumped with purpose!

I‘m fully prepared to handle any obstacle that comes my way

I’m not perfect at everything but I’m amazing at (insert what you’re good at).

No one has more control of me than I have over myself

I’m too Fly to Fail

I’ve come to far to give up now

So you get the point. You must speak to yourself with confidence and respect if you expect others to have confidence in you and respect for you. Practice pep talking yourself multiple times a day before you know it you’ll be an affirmation Guru.

What’s your affirmation for today?
