#HealthGoals – It’s More Than What We Look Like

Coming from a family that has encountered many health issues, being healthy is a WIN & WERK 💁🏾

So truly every time I go for a check up, I’m clutching my black pearls.
Today I got my biometric screening numbers back and…my numbers are looking nice.

healthy mom, healthy kid

No pre diabetes, good Cholesterol on point, Body Mass Index is in range, waist still snatched and my blood pressure is normal.

Not saying this to brag. I’m saying this to encourage you to make your health a priority now. My mom died at 36…

I can’t afford to put just anything in my body and you can’t either.

Help Your Girls Find Their Awesome

A few weeks ago a group of 7th and 8th grade girls admitted to not having interest outside of school. While the boys of the same age played sports, video games and were artistic outside of school.

When I heard this all I could think about is these girls being taken advantage of by men that know they have no direction or self worth. Deep sigh.

We don’t need not one more girl led astray by a young man that never had good intentions with her heart.

How do we help our girls find purpose?

Too many of our girls are choosing to look cute over being doers. And worse than that, girls are focusing on the accomplishments of the boys instead of getting accomplishments of their own.

Come on now. We can not have our young girls aspiring to be cute for a living. Yes, we all want to look good. Flawless!

None of that matters if we have nothing to offer outside of Red Bottoms. barrel curls and fancy nail polish.

These young ladies are probably thinking these boys will like them more if they are always available to them or that if they are attractive the boys will like them.

Enlightened grown women know that having your own aspirations keeps us from putting our life in the rough hands of another.

Here are two events happening this week to help our young sisters find a sense of purpose. Please pass this information along.

I can’t stand to see our girls out here bad.

It’s Ok for Your Kids to be Your Valentine

Valentine’s Day is as important as Christmas for some people. The Hallmark holiday isn’t really about the quality of the gift as much as it’s about the thoughtfullness of the gift.

Last year the National Retail Federation reported that the average person partipating inblogger-image-547138763 the madness of  Feb. 14 will spend $142.31, with $96.63 going to a spouse or significant other. The rest of the money will be spent on family, friends, co-workers, pets, children’s classmates or teachers.

Valentine’s Day gift giving goes back to my childhood days. Growing up, we didn’t have men in our family to give the ladies gifts, so in true Superwoman fashion the moms decided to celebrate each other and their kids. Oh I just love women that take a day that many are thinking of what they’d like to get on V-Day and turn it into a day of giving.

The tradition continues. My Aunt and Granny are the most thoughtful moms I know. Not just I’ll keep you in my prayers thoughtful – I’m talking about make you feel like you’re the most loved person in the world thoughtful.
Last year, my Granny sent each of her Grandkids and Great Grandkids cash and encouraging words for Valentine’s Day. The kids loved every dollar of course 😘 Winning, right?
Not everyone can be won over with money. My sister, Bree is a sweets monster, so she required a litte more effort.
My Aunt sent home made some deliciously moist brownies and bought McDonald’s treat books for the kids ( I won’t eat those 😉
McDonald’s treat books are available for purchase during certain holidays like Valentine’s Day and Halloween. And the treat books are only $1 and include 12 coupons for burgers, apple slices, Go Gurt and chocolate milk. The treat book coupons don’t expire until May 2016. Ask your neighborhood McDonald’s for details.

What are you planning to buy your kids for Valentine’s Day?

Better Days Are Coming

I hear these suicide stories and I just wish they would’ve believed that a better day was coming.

Instead of always criticizing each other we have to drop loads of encouragement on each other. Life isn’t easy for some. It’s an up hill battle for stability.

Be the sunshine in someone life today. Even if they don’t look like they’re going through anything tell them “You got this!” #peptalk #staymotivated #antimeangirl #winning

Next Level Thinking

Morning Move Makers – One of the most effective prayers I’ve prayed is for God to surround me with people that would get me to the next level of thinking, opportunity, spirituality. That prayer alone has brought increase into my life. My message to you is don’t just pray for God to remove the bad people; Pray that he puts you in the presence of so many exceptional people you don’t have time for the negative ones.

Move on and Succeed!

Respectful Thoughts!

Morning Move Makers: Embrace your thoughts and views but respect the opinions of others. We all have different life experience, which contributes to our thought patterns. I don’t always agree with my Granny or my Manger but I respect their point of view. If everyone around you thinks like then you need new surroundings.

Have a open minded weekend

Poor Preparation leads to an Unfulfilling Career – Internships Before College

Many college bound kids have an idea of what they want to do after college but lets be honest none of us are sure until we work in the field.

Engineering was the occupation I was going for before I enrolled in the bridge program and realized how much math didnt like me. It took some trial an error but I was eventually lead to Advertising and Marketing. If I’d had the opportunity to shadow or at least talk to someone in the field, I would’ve been better prepared.

Making and informed position about your your education which will lead to your career is very important. Who wants to pay 50k for a degree they’ll never use.

Here’s 5 quick tips to find what you’re really good at.

1. What can you see yourself doing for 20 plus years.

Remember you’ll be working for about 40 plus years. You want the career path you settle on to be something comfortable for YOU, not your parents or friends.

2. Explore the field.

Don’t wait until college to start asking questions. You have access to more people than ever. Sign up for linked-in.com  and start networking. Professionals love to boast or complain about their careers. Take notes and build relationships. You may work with them one day.

3. Don’t Limit Yourself

I’m sure you’re good at more than one thing but everything you’re good at may not have a job description. Don’t be discouraged, You are the master of your own fate. Maybe you’re an entrepreneur. Start reaching out to small business owners about their humble beginning. Owning a business is a lot of work so be sure to know what characteristics make for a successful business owner.

4. Shadow

The best way to learn is to do it. Reach out to a business that fits your career needs and ask about volunteering for a week. Be sure to be professional, have a resume ready (even if you’ve never worked. List school assignments and projects.), references and be honest about why you’re volunteering. Make sure you document what you learn.

5.  Stay Positive

You’re not going to like every occupation. Some careers are just not for you and that’s fine. It’s better you find out now opposed to after you graduate from college.

“I am always doing things I can’t do. That is how I get to do them.” -Pable Picasso

I’d love to hear about your journey to greatness
