Did you hear about this?

Viola Davis addresses the comments made by New York Times writer who recently said she was “less classically beautiful.” Last week, in an article that received plenty of backlash, Times writer Alessandra Stanley not only critiqued Davis’ looks but also referred to Shonda Rhimes as an angry black woman.

My 2 cents

This is apart of why when I see a brown skin little girl I go the extra mile to tell her she’s beautiful and amazing. I’ve seen society ignore brown girls until they have an ass and chest, only then are we considered attractive to the world. To those that think this way I say kiss my black a$$. There is more to life than being pretty.

There are plenty of beautiful useless folks in the world. They’re being used as someone’s trophy. Please teach your daughters how to love themselves and how to handle this cynical world we live in. Let them know that they can bring more than sex appeal to this world. They can change it.

“Being a dark-skinned black woman, you heard it from the womb. And “classically not beautiful” is a fancy term for saying ugly. And denouncing you. And erasing you. Now … it worked when I was younger. It no longer works for me now. It’s about teaching a culture how to treat you. Because at the end of the day, you define you.”
