Mind Control: How to create a positive digital footprint?

What people think about us starts way before they meet us. Some people heard about us from friends. Maybe you’ve seen each other at an event but no one ever introduced you. It’s highly likely that the person went and searched your name on the internet. Creepy, but it happens. In the wild world of social media, people size us up by what we post, like, double tap and pin.

I can’t tell you how many times someone has referred to something I posted on my social media page. The crazy thing is they didn’t comment or like the post (wide eyed emoji).

Not everyone is worth impressing, there some case when what we post can effect us. For example, while looking for a job – the last thing a recruiter wants to see is you using foul language, drinking or half naked. Yep, it’s your personal page. Nope, it’s not private once you put it out there. We live in a world of screen shot hunny. You can thank Apple for that one.

Here is a quick list of things you can do to manage your personal brand and make sure you’re getting all the good opportunities coming to you.

How to create a positive digital footprint?

  • Start by writing your professional biography. How did you start in your field? What are your strengths? Where did you grow up? What can you bring to a company? Be sure to add your personality to this. Don’t add emojis. Do paint a picture of your personality.
  • Get a professional head shot. You don’t have to pay hundreds of dollars for this. Just put on an outfit that fits your profession and have a friend take a picture of you in front of solid wall. It’s that simple.
  • Get recommendations. Nice words from co-workers, not for profit organizations and close friends help people understand your character and work ethic.
  • Start an AboutMeLinkedin or Levo League page. Each of these websites gives you a personal page to market your professional skills and a platform to connect with others.

Improving your digital footprint works no matter what your profession is. I don’t care if you’re a cashier or CEO. People need to know about your professional accomplishments and aspirations.

Cheers to Success,
Chanel

Say Yes to New Friends: BossChicks.com Talks Mastering the Art of Mingling

The Importance of Networking-AND Doing It Right! Part I

Posted on BossChicks.com

Networking events are great venues to advertise yourself and your business. I enjoy attending these events because not only does it give me an opportunity to get the word out about my business but it allows me to step out of my comfort zone! 🙂 I am forced to polish up on my business “spiel” and work on my firm hand shake and eye contact. At past events I’ve attended, I have given out a lot ofbusiness cards and met a lot of people. However, there are things I’ve noticed at networking events that are not exactly Networking Event Etiquette.
Here are a few networking event tips to keep in mind:
1) Make sure you take plenty of business cards and information!
PROFESSIONALLY DESIGNED at that. I have received pieces of computer paper with information on it and once someone ran out of cards so they wrote info on a napkin. That is not professional and not a good way to give a “first impression”. You should also have your “spiel” down pat so you’re not struggling to find words when explaining yourself. At networking events you will be getting a lot ofbusiness cards so it is a good idea to write notes to yourself on the back of the cards.

Gifts and Opportunities: Put Your Best Qualities on Blast

One of my mentors once told me that my gifts would make room for me. You cant keep Your goods to yourself!!!! Let the world know you’re out here and you mean business.

1.)Recognizing your own gifts is the first step. (What makes you happy and comes natural to you?)

2.)Next have confidence in your gifts. Opportunities notice confidence and will seek you if you have a pleasing personality and gifts.

3.) Stay prepared to perform. If you stay ready you don’t have to get ready.

4.) Always be professional and personable. Be the person people enjoy working with and have a successful track record. You’ll stay the topic of discussion in your expertise.

Now go make those moves!

3 Tips for Articulating Your Dreams & Goals

Slang is cool in the proper atmosphere, cursing should be limited to the people that know the real you. Speaking as if you have no home training in public is a no no. If you don’t know who you’re in the presence of, I suggest you close your mouth. Your next boss or business partner maybe standing next to you. Would you do business with you ? Would you take yourself seriously? People shouldn’t have to dig deep to get to the real you, that should be evident during the 1st impression. Reality check: If you can’t articulate your views, goals & achievements in Standard English you’ll remain right where you are.

Tip 1 – Be knowledgeable

Know what you’re talking about. Study the industry you one day hope to dominate. When it’s time to talk about why you’re interested in that field of interest there should be no hesitation on bright eyes and a eager heart.

Tip 2 – Think Before you talk

This is an age old saying that has not failed me yet. Think carefully about what you want the person you’re speaking with to know. You may have some great ideas that now everyone needs to know. Be protective of your genius. Learn their background and credentials before you lay out your life plan. Here’s a simple format for expressing your career aspirations – When you started. Where you started and Why you started

Tip 3 Live the Dream

The best way for people to see how serious you are about your aspirations is to live it. Show people that you’re working on perfecting your craft. Rather it is blogging, writing a newsletter to friends and family, networking with like minded people or posting your current projects on social media. People want to see progress not just hear about. Suggestion: Create an online Portfolio of your work. My online portfolio is the Rise2Power Project website. People can see what I’m doing.

Your goals are achievable but you must be able to express yourself to others. There is a time and a place for everything. A College education isn’t needed to attain your goals but self education is a must so people don’t get over on you. Become an expert and no one can lead you astray. You have to be the business person, artist and your own marketing team.

Sincerely,

The Inspiration Educator
