Motivated Mommy Making Moves

Mother’s day is this weekend. (Hope you have your moms gift) Although if you ask any mom she’d probably say mothers deserve more than one day that falls on a Sunday. That means moms have to go to work the next day. The reality soon settles in that mother’s day is over on Monday morning. It’s back to the grind of life.

If you’ve followed my on twitter @MommyMakinMoves and Facebook you’ve seen my mantra. Motivated Mommy Making Moves. I think it’s pretty fly. Don’t you?
Well, I came up with this little saying because of all the buzz around women pushing their dreams to the side to raise their children or be supportive to their mate. When I heard that this was expected of me, I got angry. I was mad that people in my life expected me to “settle down”. I was frustrated that as a woman that had dreams before I had a man and a child I was expected to abandon all the vivid dreams that kept me progressing. I was pissed that my life would become mundane and routine. In a nut shell I wanted to start a RIOT (No 2Chainz)
After the back in fourth in my head of if I could still be a great mother and wife while pursuing my passion, I came to the conclusion that I had no choice. I refused to pour into others leaving my own cup empty. I deserved to be fulfilled, I deserved to live in abundance even if that meant me taking on the extra work load.

This issue inspired me to make our signature shirt “Motivated Mommy Making Moves” with the image of our beautiful 1st Lady Michelle Obama. She is an amazing role model for women and girls.
Motivated Mommy Making Moves means that I’ll never forget I’m a mother but I will continue to move towards my professional and personal destiny. Yes there will be some tough decisions along the way but heavy is the head that wears the crown and as my husband says I’m a queen.
You can have love, a social life, success and be an amazing mother. I’m here to tell you it isn’t easy but it is a challenge well worth the juggling act.
Sincerely,
Motivated Mommy Making Moves.

I’m Conceited, I Gotta Reason: Pep Talking Yourself

You’re week is almost over but your goals shouldn’t be. We all have career goals ,or at least we should, that act as indicators that we’re headed in the right direction. No matter what your goals professional or personal you should always pep talk yourself. Yes, I said pep talk!!!

Before me and my girls go out for a night on the town we pop in our “Feeling Our self Music”. It usually consists of Beyonce, Juke Music and anything that says we’re fly young women. There are plenty of songs to hit the club but not too many for going to work. So for this you need to create your own mental theme music.

Everyday, situation and occasion has it’s own theme. Choose accordingly.

According to Successconsciousness.com affirmations have to be repeated with attention, conviction, interest and desire.

Here’s a few affirmations to help you stay pumped with purpose!

I‘m fully prepared to handle any obstacle that comes my way

I’m not perfect at everything but I’m amazing at (insert what you’re good at).

No one has more control of me than I have over myself

I’m too Fly to Fail

I’ve come to far to give up now

So you get the point. You must speak to yourself with confidence and respect if you expect others to have confidence in you and respect for you. Practice pep talking yourself multiple times a day before you know it you’ll be an affirmation Guru.

What’s your affirmation for today?

I get so excited about other people’s hopes dreams and aspirations I often get sidetracked assisting others achieve their goals. The feeling of helping another realize their dreams is amazing. It naturally fuels me to wake up every morning and conquer another goal. I’ve come to the realization that no one is going to bring MY DREAMS to light but me. Flex Your Brain Muscles

Source: Success Magazine
It’s a common myth that we use only 10 percent of our brains. Actually, we use all of it. But just like your body, you can improve your mental fitness to increase your brain power and keep it healthy as you age.
Perfect your posture. Try solving a problem while slouching versus sitting upright and see how it impacts your mental clarity. Now sit up straight.
Use trapped downtime. Plan ahead with an MP3 or iPod loaded with a good book or advice from a personal-development expert for when you’re stuck in traffic, in line or in a waiting room.
Tell a good story. Sharing experiences in a compelling and fun way sharpens your mental recall.
Mix up your routine. Take a different route to work, or eat your salad after the main course. Changing your typical way of doing things tells your brain to wake up and pay attention.
Write. Writing notes, poetry, stories or in a journal helps your memory, clarifies your thinking and engages your creativity.
Work on your intuition. Every time you follow through on a hunch or listen to your inner dialogue, you are working your intuitive muscle.
Walk. The rhythmic pace of walking gets you breathing and limbered up, creating a physical and mental state conducive for clear thinking.
Laugh. Endorphins released when you laugh lower your stress and can help your long-term health. Ever notice you feel better after a big laugh?

Happy Women’s History Month – Fly Weave, Weak Heart

From the baby momma’s in the hood to the young women in the corporate office with no kids we all are valuable and must treat ourselves as such. It is important that we never let our mistakes stress us and taunt us to the point that we believe that one mistakes has stopped us from progressing.

At this point in my life I’m very concerned with my health. My biggest fear is my husband and I dying early and leaving my son parentless. While many may say anything can happen and you can’t worry about things like that. Today, our parents aren’t living to be 90 years old, because of health issues, lack of health insurance, stress and a host of other contributors, our parents are dying in their 40’s and 50’s.

This blog is about rising to power and taking responsibility for success as well as failure. It would be foolish for us to believe that health isn’t apart of success. What’s the point of working hard towards something only to clunk out from a bad heart. Health and wealth go hand and hand.

Here are some tips from an article documenting the health habits of people from the healthiest areas of the world. Check it out, it’s important that we take care of ourselves so we can take care of our children. They need us.

Healthy Lifestyle Habits

Buettner and his team of researchers have identified nine lifestyle factors common among Blue Zone inhabitants, all of which are associated with an extra 3-6 years of quality life. The secret to vitality and longevity is incorporating these habits into your daily life. Adopting all nine of these habits — known as the Power9 — is not necessary to experience the benefits of increased health and longevity; according to Buettner, practicing just six of the Power9 will deliver 90% of the benefits. His book, The Blue Zones: Lessons for Living Longer From the People Who’ve Lived the Longest, provides practical guidelines for setting up your home, your social life, and your work place to help add more quality years to your life.
Surprisingly, only one of the Power9 deals with exercise, and a full third involve social factors. In fact, says Buettner, the single most important thing you can do is extend your life is to build your own “Right Tribe.” The world’s longest-lived people were either born into or choose to associate with the right people — those who provide emotional support and the motivation to engage in healthy activities. Research shows that if you surround yourself with people who are active and eat healthy foods, you are more likely to adopt these habits yourself.

The Power9

1. Move naturally
Find ways to move mindlessly and adopt a lifestyle that makes moving unavoidable. In many Blue Zones, walking is the main mode of transportation. People also engage in some sort of moderate daily activity such as gardening, walking, or playing with their children. Buettner believes that many Americans exercise too hard; our bodies were not made to withstand years of heavy pounding and high-intensity physical activity. Regular, low-intensity activity — doing something light every day — may be more beneficial. Focus on activities you enjoy — even something as seemingly simple as a daily walk can provide health benefits.
2. Know your purpose in life
Having a meaningful reason to get out of bed in the morning can help reduce stress and ward off disease. Studies show that people who retire early often see a decline in their health and even experience higher mortality rates than those who continue to work. If you enjoy your job, keep working as long as possible. Volunteer work and community service can also help provide a sense of purpose.
3. Downshift
People in Blue Zones typically have less stress in their lives. Look for ways to simplify your life: slow down, get plenty of rest, and take vacations. Try to punctuate your day with periods of calm, whether that means meditating, taking a relaxing bath, or carving out some time for yourself to engage in a hobby.
4. Follow the 80% Rule
As Americans, we’re used to eating until we’re full, but allowing yourself to feel hunger can actually be beneficial. A study involving mice revealed that the appetite-stimulating hormone ghrelin may help fight stress and depression. People in Blue Zones typically stop eating when they are 80% full. Buettner’s book and the Blue Zone web site provide advice on adopting healthier eating habits.
5. Eat a plant-based diet
People in Blue Zones don’t diet; they eat wisely. Blue Zone diets consist of large amounts of locally grown vegetables and less protein than the average American diet. Limit processed foods, meats, fats, and sweets as much as possible. Also drink plenty of fresh water and herbal teas. In Icaria, residents drink high levels of herbal teas that act as diuretics, lower blood pressure, and prevent heart disease.
6. Drink red wine
Red wine is high in powerful antioxidants that can help fight cancer, reduce inflammation, and lower cholesterol. In Sardinia, researchers found a red wine with the world’s highest-known levels of antioxidants. Drink red wine consistently and in moderation — a glass or two a day is recommended.
7. Belong to a healthy social network
Having a strong and supportive social system is key to reducing stress and living a healthy life. There is a biological link between social connection and how well our bodies function. Fifteen years ago, the average American had three good friends; that number is now down to two. Our increasingly wired society and busy lifestyles have made us more isolated, which can shave years off our lives. Make an effort to spend time with friends and nurture a face-to-face network instead of just connecting with people online. Proactively build friendships with people who practice healthy habits. Participating in social exercise groups or volunteering are great ways to meet healthy, like-minded individuals.
8. Have a belief system
Having some sort of faith system or spiritual practice has been shown to have health benefits. Participating in a belief system doesn’t have to mean organized religion: Okinawans believe in ancestral worship; yoga and meditation are also forms of non-religious spiritual practices. “People who feel their life is part of a larger plan and are guided by their spiritual values have stronger immune systems, lower blood pressure, a lower risk of heart attack and cancer, and heal faster and live longer,” says Harold G. Koenig, M.D., professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Duke University Medical Center.
9. Put your family first
People in Blue Zones make family a priority and nurture supportive relationships with their loved ones. Studies have shown that the average working American parent spends just 19 minutes a day engaged in childcare. As you work on simplifying your routine, look for new, beneficial activities you can do with your children and extended family members. Complete a craft project together, get the family together for a bike ride, or involve the children in making dinner and choosing healthy foods for the family.

Get Out the Hood and Explore the World

Young people are too afraid to venture out. There are so many opportunities for growth out here. College isn’t the only option. I encourage youth to check out Ameri corps and the Peace corps. That’s a great opportunity to see the world, help others and raise money for college. Don’t be afraid to leave your hood, believe me it will be there when you get back and you’ll be more equipped to help and enlighten the people there. I gave up an opportunity to study abroad in China when I was in 8th grade. I let fear of the unknown hinder me. After that I never let an opportunity to learn pass me. You don’t need a crew to experience life, truth is everyone can’t go and see what you need to see. Your journey is yours. I went to college solo without knowing anyone. I did an internship in New York and I’ve gone to countless networking events & meetings by myself. Don’t let your fear of being alone hinder you. God has given you all the skills you need to progress and shine.

Be confident in your own abilities.

The Secret to Success?

I have a simple message for you this morning. There have been dozen’s of books and seminars claiming to reveal the secret of success but the truth is there is only one person that holds the key. The Key to success is……..

There is no key to success. There are common qualities of successful people. Dedication, Vision, Networking, Optimism and Long work hours. These are qualities that we all are born with or can learn. If there is something that you absolutely don’t want to live without, you will make a way to get it. Just as people do crazy things for love, crazy things must be done to achieve goals. That same enthusiasm you have when you first meet an attractive member of the opposite sex, you need that to achieve goals. Dream about it at night, plan to see it in the morning, find friends that can get you close to it.

The only thing standing between you and your end goal is your inability to want it bad enough.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Don’t be afraid!!!! Take that first step towards the life you want..

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
