Locked in a Room with a Zombie Review
When my best friend said “I want to do something different for my birthday”, I knew we were all in for a treat. This woman never disappoints when it comes to events. And a night out with the girls is always filled with adventure. No boring chicks over here.
In a group text we got the message “I want us ALL to do this activity called “Locked in a room with zombie.”
Zombie! Room! Locked! Isn’t Halloween over, I thought, but in my group of girlfriends the birthday girl always wins.
She sent out the details to purchase tickets online. Bucket List Productions, the brains behind the zombie room, was nice enough to add a 10:30pm show just for us. Bucket List Productions has been putting on this performance for over a year, Travelling to more than 20 cities.
That made me feel a little better. Someone would’ve shut them down by now if the zombie had actually bitten someone like the disclaimer warns.
We all made it safe and sound to 400 s. Michigan Chicago, IL. The location wasn’t exactly covered in flashing lights. You could easily miss the kindergarten construction paper slapped on the door that read, “Enter here for Locked in a Room with a Zombie.”
The girls night out was in action. The host, a charming performer that entertained us with what sounded like a creative British accent, set the tone for the night.
He gave us the deets on the crazed zombie we paid $30 to be attacked by and ran down the rules. No punching, slapping or spitting on the zombie, no phones, no pictures of the zombie. Nothing too ridiculous.
It was time to get locked in for an hour with a zombie. One of the girls quickly began to second guess her decision to be apart of the theatrics. “YOLO, you’ve seen much worse than a zombie,” I told her.
Any who we headed into the room, huddled up like a group of Rugrats scared but ready for an adventure.
And that’s when it happened…

A special Martin Luther King, Jr. Day public performance will take place and also includes a post-show community discussion. This dynamic, cross-cultural, multi-media performance interlaces personal interviews of Chicago-based Civil Rights activists, featuring both celebrated and unsung heroes of the Movement. Audience members will also receive free museum admission for the remainder of the day.
3. Go See Selma
SELMA is the story of a movement. The film chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition. The epic march from Selma to Montgomery culminated in President Johnson (Tom Wilkinson) signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965, one of the most significant victories for the civil rights movement.

Better Days Are Coming
I hear these suicide stories and I just wish they would’ve believed that a better day was coming.
Instead of always criticizing each other we have to drop loads of encouragement on each other. Life isn’t easy for some. It’s an up hill battle for stability.

Why We Need to Celebrate Ava DuVernay
Ava DuVernay, the Golden Globe nominated director of #Selma, is someone we all should know. Even if you’re not a history buff or activist you need to know that she is the First Black Woman to be nominated for a Golden Globe. In 2015, she is the first.
At the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, DuVernay won the Best Director Prize for her second feature film Middle of Nowhere, becoming the first African-American woman to win the award. It’s kind of a big deal.
This gives us all hope that our great ideas and efforts haven’t been accomplished by someone else. There is still time for us to be great.
We must root for our fellow trailblazer. I don’t think we can want to achieve success without celebrating the sacrifices and accomplishments of others. Isn’t that was Selma is all about? Acknowledging the strategic and heroic march that was the catalyst for legislative change.

Yes Hunny, People Admire You
We are all teachers. How we act and react teaches others how to do the same. That’s a lot of pressure right! Someone always watching us, analyzing our every move – waiting for us to mess up. I have two particular people that watch my every move daily. It’s crazy how kids can’t remember to put the toilet seat down, but remember if you cursed out the UPS man – I didn’t do that, it’s just an example. (Don’t side eye me)
I don’t think my kids or the people that are watching you are waiting for us to mess up. They are actually waiting to see how we do it right. Yes sweetheart, there are a bunch of people that admire you.
We are all far from perfect, each trying to find our own way – but why not share the little lessons we’ve learned along the way.
Girl someone needs that broken hearted love story, career plan or exercise regime you figured out. Don’t hold on to that good info. Release it into the world, with the hope it improves this gorgeously confusing place.
Yep it takes a lot of patience to teach but you and the person you’re teaching will be happier in the end.

Marie Claire Change Your Life Guide
All it takes is a few encouraging words to spark a master plan. I’ve written my 2015 personal, professional, parenting and relationship goals. (Don’t judge me, I’m obsessed with goal setting).
Now it’s time to plan and execute!
Every great execution plan requires research. Marie Claire came right on time. It’s some really good info about freelance consulting, tech gadgets, fancy clothes and advice from well known successful women.
I’m so glad I took that inconvenient online survey with an incentive to receive a year of free magazines. God knew I needed some fresh reading material. He worked that thang out for me. Winning!!!
